The 28th Vibe for Philo

28th Vibe for Philo – “Fight or Fall” – Vicar St. – Sat. 4th January ’14…   When Phil Chevron and Eric Bell started strumming their guitars in a backroom bar all those years ago few could have imagined 28 years on that the Vibe for Philo would still be going on stronger than ever. Ciarán Ryan focus group discussions

CALLING CURRENT AND PAST MUSICIANS IN DUBLIN! My name is Ciarán Ryan and I am a Postgraduate (PhD.) student at the Department of Media and Communication Studies, Mary Immaculate College, Limerick. The focus of my research is the relationship between Irish musicians and their fans, and the role that media like fanzines and websites play in this. I am now seeking information from musicians in Dublin so they can tell their side of the story. I will be conducting focus group discussions on Monday, December 9th, 2013 in Dublin (city centre – location TBC) with active or past members of bands from various music genres such as indie, alternative, metal, rock, electronica, etc.  Each session will take approximately an hour.   There will be two focus groups: Group 1 – for musicians aged 35+ and/or involved in bands in the 1990’s Group 2 – musicians under the age of 35 and/or currently active.   No fee will be paid for participants taking part in the research, regrettably, but your contribution will shed valuable light on the role of music in Irish social life and development of music scenes/communities in Dublin. If you would be available to partake in these groups, please just email – please also indicate which group (i.e. “Group 1” or “Group 2” that you fall into) and a time preference – anytime between 4pm and 9pm. The groups will...
