Bobby Green writes about his love for “Oh Why” by The Henry Girls

Review by Bobby Green

From time to time a song will hit you right between the senses and before the chorus you know you’re in love. ‘Oh Why’ is one of these songs and is by far the most beautiful thing I’ve heard this year. The Henry Girls comprise of 3 sisters Karen, Lorna and Joleen McLaughlin and their voices combine like a swarm of butterflies fluttering around until you’re enraptured by the quality of the song.

‘Oh Why’ is taken from their album Far Beyond The Stars  where these sisters tap into what has become their own sound, based as it is in roots folk, elements of country, Irish and Americana. The mixture of these ingredients, combined with their intuitive understanding of each other’s melodious vocals, has resulted in their finest collection of songs to date.

‘Oh Why’ is the confident sound of The Henry Girls not only hitting their stride but confidently showing the world that they are a force to be reckoned with on the global market. If this song ignites, which it should, then The Henry Girls should be prepared to say goodbye to loved ones at home for a while because they’ll be people all over the world wanting to hear them play. Here at musician.ie everyone of us have been huge fans of The Henry Girls for ages, they are one of the bands we all have in common as one of our favourites, when you hear Oh Why you’ll understand why. Strength, charm, grace and grit, it’s impossible not to fall in love with them.

Far Beyond The Stars is out now and Oh Why is taken from this.
