Song of the Day: Tanjier’s haunting ‘Hymn’

In case you haven’t come across them before Tanjier are Mick Killen, Tommy Buckley and Ronan Lynch and they create dark electro-pop lurking in the shadows; the sound of isolation in orange dimly lit city streets. They are a trio based in Dublin, Ireland.

Previously the band have tackled issues like homelessness, addiction and mental health. Their new single ‘Hymn’ musically documents the growth of the band’s sound which shimmers and pops. Skillfully employing their influences from Talos and James Vincent McMurrow into their own particular niche with haunting lyrics and growling guitar. Lyrically the band continue to hone their songwriting and delve into the darker recesses of human nature. Setting a scene of obsession and infatuation as the protagonist struggles with their lust for a prostitute and their own sexual desires.
