IT’S BACK! Filled it with music, comedy, craic, a mouth-burning-wing-eating competition, deadly DJs and more The Wellington Weekender returns to The Workman’s Club June 29-30 & July 1.

On Friday, 29 June we welcome the amazing David Kitt. Fresh from releasing his first solo record for nine years as “the most free I’ve felt making a record since my debut Small Moments”. David Kitt’s sense of freedom is bound up in themes of renewal, movement, and a constant reshaping of his musical preoccupations. The last number of years have seen him touring and recording as a member of Tindersticks, producing other musicians’ work, exploring techno, disco, and house under his New Jackson moniker, remixing everyone from Shit Robot to The XX, and producing intriguing, eclectic DJ sets and radio shows. Yous is a finely wrought and elemental piece of work, folding in electronic hisses and beats that ground carefully fingerpicked guitars (inspired by the likes of Mississippi John Hurt and John Fahey) and stirring violin, weaving between glorious pop-kissed melodies and stark, immersive, poignant compositions – something Kitt does so well. Yous is one of Kitt’s best, and most personal musical statements, to date and we cannot wait until his live show with us! He’ll be joined by some guests – stay tuned for more details!

On Saturday, 30 June we’ve got lots of great things in store for you! In the Venue Bar we’ll have Banter, with Jim Carroll and Paul Noonan (Bell X1). The lead singer will be talking about 20 years of life and music with Bell X1. On the First Floor, browse trinkets and treats at or Flea Market – plus we’ll have an acoustic stage set up on our Terrace for the afternoon, with some great acts coming to play for your afternoon delight.

Later that night, we’ll be keeping the party going in The Workman’s Club with the deadly Booka Brass, one of Ireland’s greatest live acts.. In late 2012 the group of students were drawn together by their classical background and desire to experiment musically. Since then their trajectory has been constantly on the rise, from the success of their critically acclaimed debut EP BBB, a sold-out nationwide tour alongside collaborations and live performances with Irish music heavyweights including The Frames, Lisa Hannigan, Jape and James Vincent McMorrow.

Over in The Liquor Rooms on Saturday night, Eddie Temple-Morris will be spinning some serious beats while the expert bartenders whip up some beautiful cocktails.

On Sunday, 1 July, Fred Cooke will deliver his unique brand of comedy through his musical prowess and wild crafted physical story telling. He has worked on The Tommy Tiernan Show both on RTÉ and 2fm. Fred became a regular on the highly successful RTÉ Show, The Fear. He has been seen preparing a choral spectacle surprise at a proposal in the Electric Picnic, embarrassing one of his fans at the Vodafone Comedy Festival, and proposing to an unexpected lady in Dublin City Centre. His musical sketches are a constant hilarious success with his Republic of Telly Hidden Camera Prank reaching 1,661,213 hits on Youtube. Fred has frequently been invited to perform at the largest and most successful festivals both here and abroad, including the Cat Laughs Comedy Festival, the Vodafone Comedy Carnival, Edinburgh Fringe Festival, Tampere Comedy Festival in Finland, London Irish Comedy Festival, Kells Hay Festival, Mayo Summer Festival, The Trim Satire Festival. “Fred Cooke is ready to step into the premier league of Irish funnymen.” HOT PRESS
