Disco legends Sister Sledge and Kila join Leftfield and King Kong Company as headliners at Townlands Carnival 2018, taking place at Rusheen Farm, Co Cork this July.

In the history of music, there have been only a handful of musical groups which have managed to transcend time, genre, and culture . . . and Sister Sledge is without question one of them. Sisters Debbie and Kim have created some of the most defining tracks of the disco era, with ‘Lost in Music’ (co-written and produced by Nile Rogers) and ‘We Are Family’ spanning decades of playlists; dazzling audiences with a heady mix of jazz, soul, gospel, disco, and R&B.

Meanwhile, Kila are undisputedly one of the best live trad acts ever to grace international stages. Kila’s strong percussive singing and sublime melodies are driven by a serious rhythmical undercurrent aimed at making audiences dance! They have created their own distinctive style of world music, winning over audiences around the world through their amazing albums and their spectacular live performances.
Also announced today is UK ragga DJ and MC, General Levy, who has effortlessly glided from 90s jungle to modern grime, collaborating with the likes of Dizzee Rascal and M-Beat. Joining him on an expansive floor-filling bill will be rave legends Altern 8, Mungo’s Hi-Fi, Carny Villians, Al Jive Mesitzo, Eva Lazarus, Radikal Gura & Cian Finn, Vinyl Below, Strange Weather, Cula Bula, Hotlady, Flipside Selekta & Fake Rolex and Rob Walsh & the Panik Attaks.
Building on last summer’s carnival extravaganza, Townlands18 will combine the worlds of circus, music and the arts, leaning on tradition while looking to the future. With this in mind, families are welcome to Townlands Carnival and the entire family will be kept busy in the Village Green, which hosts Big Bubbles Kids Area, the Craft Village and the Village Hall. Each area caters to a huge variety of activities; from copper-smithing and candle-making, Yoga and Eco-Awareness talks to interactive games, entertainers and circus classes for kids of all ages.

The Shiver-me-Timbers Family Area with Big Bubbles is a thoroughly enjoyed exploration, providing a safe and exciting place for chilling out and family fun with a funky, Old World Pirate themed atmosphere. Within, you will discover the Buccaneer’s Beached Dragon Pirate Ship, the Giant Angry Birds Catapult Game, the Giant Wooden Castle as well as new ‘Star Gazer’ hammock structure, where you can relax and float off in the midday sun, or gaze at the stars at night. There will also be a humongous hide-away Bell Tent, a chic and comfortable area kitted out with coco matting, massive multi-coloured giant bean bags and giant wooden toddler’s toys where you can relax and take it easy while escaping the sun.

There is a dedicated family camping area with lots of variety in store for food and of course, plenty of great picnic spots with artistic and musical adventures to take part in along your travels. The family ticket is available online now which caters for two adults and two children, with under 12’s already going free!
