Interview by Bobby Green
Elly O’Keeffe has a beautiful new EP out, I was lucky enough to catch up with her last week to chat about the new EP and her move across the water.
Thanks for taking the time out for this interview and congratulations on this new ep, it really is sounding fantastic, the harmonies are sublime. Can you tell me a little about the recording of it?
Thanks!! Glad you like it! My producer and I started to co-write a few years back. Once we wrote some songs Joe decided to come to Cork as I was based there at the time. We went to Lettercollum studios in West Cork to record the EP. We recorded most of it live which was great fun playing with musicians I worked with at the time!
You’re living in England now, why did you make the journey across the sea?
I made the move as I felt I had done all I was going to do in Cork. It was the right time for me to leave as I had projects on in London with my producer so it was just time to take that leap!
How are you finding my old stomping ground, has there been any hurdles to jump, how is your music being received over there?
Haha, It’s been tough but rewarding. Been through a lot here but then again following an independent music career is tough and so is London town. But I’ve learned so much already and I have a lot more experience now in what I aim to do with me career.
What do you miss about home?
My family and friends. I miss the Cork music scene as it was always such a buzz to be a part of. There are some great musicians around doing great things and I miss that support that everyone gives each other.
Getting back to the ep, is there a muse behind these songs, they seem very personal?
All my songs are personal. Generally written about experiences in love, life, loss and people in general. The usual:)
Any plans to tour Ireland, either with your band or solo?
Yes, I am going to Nashville this August 2018 and I am recording my next EP with some new producers and I am super excited!! Once it is released by early next year I plan to do a small european solo tour around April time.
Thanks again, it really is a joy to listen to your music again, your voice gets better and better with every new listen. And I hope our paths cross again very soon.
Thanks man! x
