Irish pianist Hugh Tinney will celebrate his upcoming 60th birthday with a solo programme in 12 venues across the Republic and Northern Ireland during the month of November beginning on November 1st when the pianist will perform at the Stack Theatre at Cork CIT School of Music.
For this special occasion, Hugh Tinney will perform a diverse musical programme embracing the perennial favourites by Beethoven, Chopin and Schubert and modern compositions by Belfast-born Ian Wilson and internationally celebrated British composer Thomas Adés.
The tour will culminate with a concerto performance on Friday 30th with the National Symphony Orchestra in the NCH.  In an all-Beethoven programme, conducted by Jonas Alber, Hugh will perform the Piano Concerto No. 5, ‘Emperor’.
Since winning first prize at both the 1983 Pozzoli and 1984 Paloma O’Shea piano competitions in Italy and Spain, Hugh Tinney has performed in more than thirty-five countries. A prize in the 1987 Leeds Piano Competition earned him a busy career in Great Britain. He has made a major contribution to Irish concert life for over thirty years, including multiple solo recital series, chamber music series, and frequent concerto appearances with the Irish orchestras.  He has played chamber music with many distinguished individuals and groups. He teaches at the RIAM and has toured China several times with the Academy Chamber Ensemble.  Artistic Director of the Music in Great Irish Houses Festival from 2000 to 2006, he is currently joint Artistic Director, with his duo partner violinist Catherine Leonard, of the Westport Festival of Chamber Music.   He was awarded an Honorary Doctorate in Music by the National University of Ireland in 2007.
