Live At The Marquee 2015

By Bobby Green.

Press days are normally quite dull affairs. What normally happens is the promoter comes out and basically tells you what’s going to happen and then we go away and write about how great it’s going to be.  This is made easy with the Live At The Marquee events because the rock n roll circus is always packed with legends. There hasn’t been a year where I’ve not wanted to be there, so writing about the acts is easy. You can tell the Peter Aiken loves his music and he also loves to entertain.  And these events really put Cork on the music map. And no more so than this years line up with international stars such as Beck, Billy Idol, Lionel Richie and Noel Gallagher to name a few. But it’s the Irish talent that really stands out this year. The Coronas play 2 nights with HamsandwicH, Roisin O supporting on the 1st night and Hudson Taylor and Little Hours on the 2nd night. Nathan Carter plays on the 21st June and Kodaline play with The Academic on the 25thJune. The Waterboys will always be claimed as Irish and Irish Legends Christy Moore and Van Morrison are also playing.

I’m really looking forward to seeing The Frames on the 11th July. I personally think they are Irelands most underrated band. Their albums are beautiful works of art that should be celebrated. And the penultimate night has Damien Rice playing (13th July)

But it isn’t all about music. Irish comedy great Dara O’Briain entertains on the 3rd of July and the whole rock n roll circus that is Live At The Marquee 2015 kicks off tonight with the cultural phenomenon Riverdance that has played to over 25million people worldwide. This is the 1st time the show will be shown in Cork City and is playing for 4 nights. This really is an amazing show that brought Irish dancing to a worldwide audience. The magic and the power of the show is truly breath taking. I know this because we were treated to a special performance of it for the press day. And when I was asked if I wanted to join them onstage I didn’t need to be asked twice. I don’t think Michael Flatley has anything to worry about but my mammy will be every so proud.
