Newly formed supergroup Barq is a collaboration between Neil Dorrington, Stephen McHale (of Wierd Glitches), Jess Kav and Tommy Gray. Fusing soul and RnB with angsty lyrics “Gentle Kind Of Lies” is their first single and it is fierce.
Funeral Suits make a welcome return after four years and the release of their debut album “Lily Of The Valley” with new single “Tree Of Life”. “Brush my teeth before I drink my coffee” the new single is an edgier take on the mundane elements of everyday life. You remember that clip of David Bowie singing a nursery rhyme as David Bowie, well picture New Order doing the same as you go about your daily business. With plenty of surprising elements from synths to bells this is a wonderful world traveled song.
Participant is the moniker for Dubliner Stephen Tiernan who delivers sincere and honest sentiments mixed with samples, texture and ambience. I’m really loving his new single “Leave Me Here”. Participant plays The Workman’s Club Thursday April 7th.
In The Willows
After a period of change and adjustment Waterford/Dublin alt-folk band In The Willows have found their feet with new single “Tempting Me” which is off their brand spanking new EP out today “Fallen Bird” available on iTunes. In The Willows have a series of dates lined up including the EP launch but they next play Smock Alley, Dublin, April 26th.
The Shaker Hymn
Cork band The Shaker Hymn have just released their new album “Do You Think You’re Clever?” and “Waters Of Sea Change” is the first single from it and also one of two free singles they have made available on streaming services. The vocals are compelling and the track itself contains some atmospheric elements making this a psych lovers dream from fuzzy guitars to well I’m not sure how they did the closing seconds of the track but it reminds you of sitting on a cliff edge listening to the ocean. The Shaker Hymn are touring at the moment they play Roisin Dubh April 7th, Kenny’s in Lahinch April 8th and Coughlan’s, Cork April 22nd.
