Currently, Tanjier are holed up somewhere in the West of Ireland recording their 2nd EP, due out in September and many of our regular readers will remember their debut EP “Sunrise” was one of our favourites from 2016. “Yu” is the debut single from this new EP and is set for release June 24 with a show in Whelan’s, DUblin.

After finding each other in Tanjier, Morocco in 2015 the band have been creating dark broody electro pop since. “Yu” sees a slight change in lineup and with it their sound is more heightened, stripped back, and raw. Tanjier have always looked beyond the shores of Ireland, their sound definitively international and it is no more apparant than with “Yu” where influences like London Grammer, 1975 and Jack Garrett are evident. I would include James Vincent McMorrow and his American influences in that list as there are RnB elements to “Yu” as well. Maybe their music lends to it but Tanjier in their writing focus on mental health allowing the listener to wallow in their own preoccupations while simultaneously reaching down and pulling you up and offering you hope.

Tanjier have grown up and are showing their stripes with “Yu” and I can’t wait to hear the rest of what they have to offer.
