Travis Oaks have invested large amounts of time and energy in writing Rock and the Blues since their formation in 2013. The efforts of the four-piece band, consisting of Maynooth natives Michael Paterson, Taran Plouzane, Aran McGillick and Killian McCourt, resulted in their self-titled debut three track EP. Produced and recorded at NuMu Productions, it is set for release on Friday November 14th.
With sounds reminiscent of Queens of the Stone Age and the Black Keys, Travis Oaks’ sound is one of the most refreshing to explode onto the Irish music scene recently. The entire EP is packed start to finish with addictive riffs that render air guitar rock-outs and high kicks unavoidable.
The infectious melody of ‘Birdhouse Blues’, the lead single, is almost impossible to not sing along to. ‘Soul Son’ carries a punchy Rock vibe throughout, flaunting a rather tasty bass line. Be warned – a high risk of moshing-related neck injuries presents itself following the listening of ‘Last Love Song’, the EP’s final track. The video created by Little Beasts, which sees the band held captive by a forest tribe, certainly reflects the edgy mood of this tune.
Those unopposed to a good Rock induced dance will definitely be a fan of what Travis Oaks have to offer. However their solid tone should prove pleasing to any ears.
Travis Oaks will be providing you the chance to get an exclusive copy of the EP, with a launch taking place in Tower Records Dublin on November 13th, a day prior to its official release.
