The second Cork Rocks of the summer takes place at Cork Racecourse on Friday July 12 following a fantastic show by Hot House Flowers at the Mallow racetrack in June, featuring Gina and The Champions.

Gina established herself as Ireland’s top attraction from the mid-seventies and maintained that coveted position right through the eighties with record breaking attendances at dances and concerts, wherever she performed.  Matching her live success with industry recognition, Gina was acknowledged many times over with the most prestigious awards the Irish music industry has to offer.

Elevating Gina to a national phenomenon was her first number one single ‘Minnie Minnie Minnie’. Many music pundits credit Gina with prolonging the celebrated showband and ballroom circuit by a full decade.  From the Lilac Ballroom Carndonagh to the Majestic Ballroom Mallow, Gina turned the large, expansive dancehall spaces to a sea of people night in night out.

Gina made innumerable television appearances both in Ireland and Britain over the course of their lengthy career.  Appearances on RTE’s The Late Late Show were a regular occurrence, performing many of her hits, such as, ‘The Greatest Lover’, ‘Give me back my Love’, ‘Dreams are Good Friends’, ‘Drunken’ Sailor and many more.

Speaking ahead of Cork Rocks, General manager, Andrew Hogan said, “Judging by ticket pre sales, we are in for an extra special night at the racecourse on Friday July 12th.  Gina & The Champions are firm favourites and once the first note is sung the crowd are up on the dance floor. The first of our jumps card goes to post at 5:40pm and Gina & The Champions take to the stage at 9pm, a night not to be missed.”

Gina and The Champions will be preceded by an action packed, thrilling card of racing and a selection of hospitality packages: from the super value ‘Social Pack’ option which at just €20 includes admission to the racing and concert, race card, tote voucher and drinks voucher, to the Summer BBQ package at €50 to include admission and seating in the Pavilion.
